Coins Worth; are you Getting your Money’s Worth?
The last thing you’ll want to do when buying a coin is to overpay. Unfortunately just about every beginning Coin Collector makes this mistake and will invariably end up paying more than the coins worth. I know I keep saying this, but the one thing that can change this status is experience. Until you acquire some experience you’ll most likely be consistently paying more than the coins worth.
Don’t let that put you off however, quite a few Collectors do pay extra sometimes when they want to acquire a particular coin for their collection. The tradeoff here is that by adding it to their set they drive the overall coins worth upwards and recover the extra 5%-10% that they pay.
You’ll be surprised to learn that sometimes a collector will go as high as 20% higher of the coins worth to get their hands what they want. They know that in the end the rewards will far outweigh the initial outlay for the coin. So unless you want to pay more than you should for your coins worth, then I would suggest either not going into the buying arena until you’re more certain of yourself, or getting yourself an agent (experienced!) who can handle the sale for you.
The other thing of course is just to step into the deep end and swim – or doggy paddle – for all you’re coins worth. You might end up with a few dud pieces, but you’ll also have ended up with invaluable experience. And don’t be afraid to ask for help from someone. You can’t reasonably be expected to know everything about coins worth, so it’s alright to ask for help when you’re in way over your head.
The same thing applies when you’re looking for an agent or a dealer. They don’t know everything about the coins worth world but they will be specializing in certain aspects of it. What you need to do is to go to the dealer or agent who can handle your needs, and who specializes in coins worth.
